Rala

Rala is an English-to-Kannada dictionary combining two major sources: V. Krishna's Alar dictionary (156,672 entries) and the Karnataka Government's Padakanaja dictionaries (322,008 entries) — totalling 478,680 entries covering 103,585 unique English words.

It uses whole-word matching to avoid false positives, with automatic word-form detection (e.g. 'escalation' finds 'escalate'). The Alar dictionary loads locally for offline use, while Padakanaja data is served via a Cloudflare Worker. Both sources include audio pronunciation.

Built as a Progressive Web App — installable, works offline, supports dark mode.
